It has been another busy weekend trying to fit training around a busy life and of course my obsession with Heineken cup Rugby. Yesterday morning I was on the road with my bike for a 52km ride. It has been a while since I was on the road bike and although my fitness is good I was surprised how tough I found the cycle. During the summer I was on my bike 2-3 times a week training and knocking out the local hills no problem, yesterday was different and the hills really took it out of my legs. Good session though on a nice new route, I will definitely be hitting it again, cheers to Geoff for the company.
Then it was off to the in-laws to do some DIY and of course watch some classic rugby, first weekend of Heineken cup action and the Munster boys looked rusty and couldn’t manage the win but got the now almost mandatory loosing away bonus point, bring on Thomond park next weekend and a home win! (Unfortunaly I will miss it due to Sea Trials)
Today was a well earned day of rest, early start though for Coast Guard Training, a nice relaxed navigation session out on the Shannon. Just when I thought my rescue duties were over for the day I got a call from a distressed Andree, she had taken a nasty spill off her road bike on the main raod. I collected her and patched her up, she will be out of action for a few days, but being the Athlete that she is, it will be hard to keep her still for too long.
This evening I met up with a good friend Richard Pepper, a fellow Coast Guard volunteer and outdoor enthusiast he has very kindly loaned me his Water Rower for my preparations. This is a massive gesture and will allow me to train at home, saving me time and petrol driving to the gym.
More on my progress with the new toy during the week, only 5 days to sea trials…
