I have been on the go non stop for the past couple of days. Yesterday morning I was in the gym at 0700 for my first session on the rowing machine, 30mins and about 4.5km, felt pretty good. Followed that with some weights, the programme Tom gave me is all about building strength. Lots of sets, only got half way through as I ran out of time and energy. Looks like it will take about 1 hour to get through it in full, I should get it all done on Saturday morning.
After the gym it was in to work for a busy day of budget work and engine maintenance.
Home at 5 for dinner and then out again on a Coast guard night exercise, 4 hours of navigation practice all over our operation area. Great session lots of good work done in preparation for our big unit assessment this weekend.
The original plan to hit the gym early had to change as my Jeep is in the garage so another early morning turbo session in front of the TV had to do instead. Popped into work and then into the gym for a short session on the rowing machine.
The big news is that I then met with the fundraising people in Milford Care centre and they are happy to be on board as one of my charities, the other charity I will be working with is the Marymount Hospice in Cork. I will have more information on both charities on the website very shortly.
After that meeting it was off to UL again to meet with Sport Psychologist Aine MacNamara. She has been working with Limerick man Sean McGowan who is planning a solo row this winter. We had a very productive meeting and she has some great insight into how I will be able to cope mentally with the challenge of over 40 days at sea. I am looking forward to working with her during my preparation to train my mind to be as fit as my body.
Then it was back to work, home for dinner and a website update. Off out again in 5 minutes to finish off some tiling for the in-laws.
I am looking forward to a few days away with my lovely wife in Italy next week for our 1st wedding anniversary. It will give both of us a chance to get some well earned R & R, but until then it will be business as usual.
